This September, I was privileged to embark on an e- fellowship journey that has turned out to be a truly rewarding experience.

Joining the YCI HerStart Fellowship was about finding my tribe. Through the rich networks and well thought out training, I have found them while deepening my knowledge and strengthening my international development skills. Engaging with fellows, partner organizations in Ghana and YCI staff with such diverse backgrounds, yet all with the same goal of making the world a more just and equitable place, has been a powerful experience. Our common belief in serving others, not because we must, but because we can, has had a profound impact on my personal and professional growth. As I come to the end this fellowship, I no longer find myself on a solitary journey, but on a meaningful adventure with a newfound network of allies.

Are you ready to find your tribe? You can start here https://yci.org/herstart/. HerStart is currently accepting applications for the next cohort of international fellows! Visit the website where you can learn more about the 3- or 6-month fellowship opportunities.

We all perhaps have this idea in our minds of what it means to be creative. Maybe it conjures up images of the Mad Hatter, a little out there, running around covered in paint, eccentric ... you get my drift. But guess what people, we are all creative beings, it is at the very core of our nature to be creative. The great thing about creativity is that no one size fits all and this is what makes our potential as creatives so special. You are one of a kind! Yes I'm talking to YOU!

Here at Biasharalabs, our purpose and mission is to build a culture of creativity especially as it pertains to problem solving. That's the interesting thing, when you look at the character profile of successful people, they have found creative solutions to often challenging and seemingly difficult scenarios. Our intention is therefore to encourage African youth, particularly those who find themselves on the fringes of society, to know that with their unique creative potential is of significant value. When we look at the numerous challenges African youth face on a daily basis, it can seem hopeless to try and overcome them. We want to walk together on this journey to self actualization, by teaching problem solving through creativity. Yes, we all want to focus on science, technology, engineering and math but creativity is at the heart of all these things too.

So I dare you to take a moment to dream. Indulge yourself in all those "what could be's" that cross your mind. And remember creativity is not just about art, it is about any form of expression, be it dancing, writing, building, cooking, gardening, spoken word. It really is about bringing something into being. And that being is very much a part of you! The benefit of allowing this process of creativity is that it gives us fresh EYES on the opportunities and challenges in our life. Give it a try, you just might like it.
